Sam Amadi, director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has suggested that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be dropped from the ruling All Progressives Congress presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
Speaking on Arise TV Saturday, Amadi was responding to recent developments at an APC north-east summit where speakers endorsed President Bola Tinubu for 2027 while notably omitting Shettima’s name from endorsements.
The political analyst described the omission as “an indication of a certain language control arising from the reality of politics,” suggesting deliberate messaging behind the exclusion.
Amadi pointed to Tinubu’s track record with deputy officials during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, noting the president “finds it difficult to work with deputies.”
“President Tinubu has clearly shown that he finds it difficult to work with deputies. As governor of Lagos, he had the distinction of having three deputies, each of whom was thrown out in a very chaotic and unpalatable process, and their careers got largely derailed,” Amadi explained.
The analyst emphasized that current political dynamics extend beyond Lagos state-level politics, noting that “we are dealing with something bigger than Lagos” at the presidential level.
While acknowledging that party leadership can only select one candidate during nomination processes, Amadi stressed that conventional political communication regarding endorsements typically follows clear patterns.
According to Amadi, the careful language used at political gatherings often reflects underlying political realities and strategic positioning within party structures.
The comments come amid ongoing speculation about the composition of the APC ticket for the 2027 presidential election, with various political observers analyzing party dynamics and potential changes to the current leadership structure.
