Tension flared at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday after a lawyer identified as Yakubu allegedly referred to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore as a “tout,” leading to a heated confrontation with the latter’s supporters.

The incident occurred before proceedings commenced in the ongoing cyberbullying trial involving Sowore.

Sowore is facing charges linked to allegations that he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” through his verified social media account.

Witnesses said the lawyer’s remark triggered a shouting exchange inside the court premises as supporters of the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate challenged the comment.

Some supporters reportedly threatened retaliation following the day’s proceedings before Justice Mohammed Umar.

Court officials and security personnel were said to have intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further as proceedings continued.
