“The President left the country on January 19, 2017 for a vacation, during which he had routine medical check-ups. The holiday was extended based on doctors’ recommendation for further tests and rest,” said spokesman Femi Adesina.
“President Buhari expresses appreciation to teeming Nigerians from across the country, and beyond, who had prayed fervently for him, and also sent their good wishes,” he added.
The return of Mr. Buhari will mark a dramatic turn of events in his presidency. Rumours had spread that the President had died or was in a very poor health. Many had said he would remain in London for months.
Many were already looking beyond Mr. Buhari, a no-nonsense retired Army General who rose to power in 2015 promising to crush Boko Haram and kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria.
While he was away, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, acted as President. His acting capacity will come to an end immediately Mr. Buhari returns and notifies the National Assembly.
