Yet another Nigerian has been murdered abroad, this time in Italy.
According to reports, Emmanuel Chidi and his partner were walking down the streets of Paolo Calcinora when racial insults were thrown at them by a football fanatic. This reportedly led to an altercation and Chidi was physically attacked.
Archy world described his killer as a 40-year-old local football fan who uprooted a steel signpost and brutally beat Chidi on the head until he lost consciousness.
Chidi died in hospital yesterday.
Confirming the tragic news, the mayor of the town, Paul Fermo Calcinaro said: “As mayor of a town that is welcoming and open to integration, I feel I’m living in a nightmare.“
Chidi and his partner Chinyere had been living in the small town for eight months after arriving Europe through the Mediterranean Sea. They were lodged in a shelter run by Catholic charity Caritas.
Chidi’s murderer was yet to be apprehended as at press time.
