Why Is Solarmovie Down? Will It Return?

Is Solarmovie down for good? (Solarmovie)

Web visitors are reporting that Solarmovie is shut down. Will the site be coming back? Is it gone for good? Find out if the site’s disappearance is connected to the federal government’s seizure of KickassTorrents.

Here’s what you need to know.

Solarmovie’s Shutdown May Be Connected to KickassTorrents

Users are reporting that Solarmovie.ph, along with its previous location SolarMovie.com, are down. When you go to either site, you get an error message about the DNS address not being found or the site unable to be reached.

It looks like there’s a chance the site might be down for good, especially if it’s connected to KickassTorrents. KickassTorrents’ sites went down after they were seized by the U.S. government and the alleged owner was arrested in Poland. (Read all about the KickassTorrents lawsuit here.)

TorrentFreak reported that there might be a connection between the two sites. In a complaint filed by the federal government against KickassTorrents’ alleged owner, Artem Vaulin, the government mentioned using an undercover agent to gather information about KAT. In his investigation, the agent found that Vaulin had corresponded with a person who rented KAT’s servers. In addition, the complaint stated:

Solarmovie.com (now solarmovie.ph) is a website that is visually identical to KAT and which provides streaming links to movies and television series without authorization from copyright holders. As of on or about June 27, 2016, one of the IP addresses hosting solarmovie.ph was one IP address away (185.47.10.11) from an IP address that was being used to host KAT (185.47.10.12 and 185.47.10.13)…”

The fact that Solarmovie was mentioned in the lawsuit may have been enough to prompt the site’s owners to take it down. Or it may be that Solarmovie was owned by Vaulin. TorrentFreak reported that there is likely some connection, however. This connection may be why the site is down.

Currently, an identical site at solarmovie.fm is up. However, it’s not known if this is a copycat site or if it even works.
