Governor Abubakar of BauchiThe governor of Bauchi state has ordered the immediate release of Mr. Musa Azare, a Nigerian blogger accused of the now commonly used “Cyber Stalking” crime, saying that as a lawyer, he believes in freedom of speech.
The office of Governor Mohammed Abubakar, said in a brief statement to TheSimonAtebaNews, that as a lawyer, Mr. Abubakar believes in freedom of speech and ordered the release of the blogger after he returned from a business trip to China on Sunday.
The Nigerian chairman of the Human Rights committee was quoted as confirming that the blogger, Musa Azare has been released.
As social media grows in Nigeria, some bloggers have come under attack by state agents. A popular blogger in Abuja was arrested recently by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for cyber stalking after consistent reports against the chairman of the agency, Mr. Ibrahim Magu. His arrest triggered outrage across Nigeria and he was eventually given administrative bail.
