President Buhari making a presentation to Paul Biya, President of Republic of Cameroon and his wife Mrs Chantel Biya at the end of their 2 day state visit to Nigeria at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja on 4th May 2016Cameroon will stand by Nigeria until Boko Haram is completely defeated, a Cameroonian army commander fighting the Nigerian militants has said, adding that the insurgency should be over not too long from now.
Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo, the Cameroonian army commander in charge of Sector 1 of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a regional force battling Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeast, also commended the Nigerian Army for its recent military successes recorded against a group of ruthless militants who pledged allegiance to ISIS last year.
According to a statement by Colonel Mustapha Anka, a Deputy Director Army Public Relations of the 7 Division Nigerian Army, the Cameroonian General was accompanied on the visit by Commander 4th Military Region of the Cameroon Defence Force, Brigadier General Kodji Jacob, Operation Officer MNJTF, Lt Col ML Ashetkuemun and some officers of sector 1 MNJTF.
He said the insurgency has badly affected the economy of Cameroon especially its Trans Sahara Trade.
General Bouba spoke when he paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu at the Headquarters of the division in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
He described the GOC as a strategist, professional and team player who believes in synergy and cooperation to achieve set objectives.
He thanked the GOC for all the support his troops enjoyed from his command especially in the area of information sharing and promised to maintain the already existing synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Cameroonian Forces.
The Cameroonian general described the challenges posed by the terrorists as a test for West African countries to handle security threats in the region by themselves. He called on West African countries to always be security conscious along the borders of the Chad Basin.
The GOC in his remarks thanked the visiting General and the delegation for the visit which he attributed to the excellent relationship between the two countries through collaboration and capacity building in the fight against insurgency.
He described the visit as timely and that it will afford the Commanders the opportunity to sit and re-strategize for the final onslaught against the terrorists.
