The day has come in the United States when a new President would emerge after eight years of President Barack Obama, the first African American President here.
Polling stations in New York with 29 electoral college votes opened about an hour ago. They will remain that way between 6 am and 9pm.
New York in terms of electoral college votes comes only after California which has 55 votes and Texas that has 38. Florida like New York has 29.
There’s not much noise about California or Texas because California is leaning very democrat while Texas is leaning very Republican.
To win the presidential election here either of the four candidates contesting needs only 270 electoral college votes. The total number is 538.
There are also 34 out of 100 senators to be elected. For now Republicans control 53 out of the 100 seats. But 20 of the 34 seats are Republicans that can be won by democrats today, giving Clinton a big boost as she projected by all to win.
All the 435 House of Representatives seats are up for election plus 12 state governors and two regional governors. The United States has 50 states plus the District of Columbia and some regions it controls.
In all, 2.2 trillion naira about 5 billion US dollars have been spent by the candidates in almost one and half years.
