Gareth edwards Rogue One, Rogue One director, Rogue One premiere

Scenes From the Rogue One Premiere

On December 10, five days before the first screenings of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story begin, Disney and Lucasfilm hosted the world premiere for the film in Los Angeles. Most of the cast was there, along with a handful of other celebrities excited to see the new Star Wars film.

Rogue One is the first Star Wars stand-alone film and is set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. It explores the Rebellion’s “first victory against the evil Galactic Empire” alluded to in the opening crawl of that film. In the end, the band of Rebel spies manage to steal the plans to the Death Star, which wind up in the hands of Princess Leia. However, how those plans ended up in her hands is what’s explained in the film.

Rogue One was directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards. The story was crafted by visual effect wizard John Knoll, with the first script written by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli). Chris Weitz (About a Boy) did further re-writes, while Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) was brought in to help the film during reshoots in the summer.
