President Buhari in the Gambia on January 13 to try to pull off a lance chance peace dealEcowas Chief mediator, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the Gambia for a lance chance peace deal is quoted to have told Journalist Saikou Jammeh in Banjul that “only God knows what will happen today if talks fail”.
Mr. Buhari is to meet with incoming President Adama Barrow who won the December 1 Presidential election, and President Yahya Jammeh, who lost but has vowed not to hand over.
Mr. Jammeh, who had been in power for more than two decades had accepted election results only to reverse himself a week after citing some irregularities. But the regional West African body, ECOWAS, warned that force could be used against him should he stay beyond January 19 when his mandate expires.
