The headline speaker for the first full day of CPAC 2017 was President Donald Trump’s Vice President, former Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Pence’s speech comes a day after he traveled to St. Louis to help in the clean-up efforts of a vandalized Jewish cemetery. He was also in Brussels earlier this week to discuss the U.S.’ relationship with the European Union and NATO going forward.
Pence is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. ET. He will be preceded by actor Robert Davi and Judge Jeanine Pirro.
Pence’s trip sent mixed signals to Europe. As CNN reports, Pence said at NATO headquarters that Trump is “fully committed” to NATO, even though Trump has questioned the alliance’s usefulness. But Pence added a caveat, saying, “The patience of the American people will not endure forever.”
On Wednesday, Pence was dispatched to St. Louis, where a Jewish cemetery was vandalized.
“There is no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or anti-Semitism,” Pence said, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I must tell you, people of Missouri are inspiring the nation by your love and care for this place. You make us all proud.”
