Nigeria’s Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, travelled to Akwa Ibom state on Thursday as he continues to engage oil producing communities.
President Muhammadu Buhari promised during his budget presentation last year that his administration would use dialogue rather than force to resolve the Niger Delta crisis.
The impoverished region is home to Nigerian oil but complaints by the populations have often snowballed into attacks on oil and gas installations. Last year, the oil production output crumbled to about 1.2 million barrels for day. The government announced this week that it has gone up to about 2.1 million barrels daily, a directly result of the dialogue rather than war employed by the government.
