The immediate past governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has described former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as one of the eminent citizens of the world and Africa’s leading light.
In a statement conveying his sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the 80th birthday Anniversary of the former president, Otunba Daniel said “as a gallant military officer, distinguished statesman, farsighted politician and exemplary persona, Chief Obasanjo has written his name indelibly on the sands of time and remained relevant to national and international political process and a common figure on global issues in and outside of office”.

Continuing, he stated that “Chief Obasanjo’s ascension to power in 1976, voluntary handover to a democratically elected government in 1979, entrenchment of democracy as a two-term president between 1999 and 2007 and, again, transition to another democratically elected government were testimonies to the fact that never in Nigerian politics has there been a man with who history is so kind. It is therefore significant to give thanks to God for His grace, protection and blessings over the years to celebrate this unique signpost”.
