I know y’all are gonna laugh and call me a late-comer, but, hopefully, someone will congratulate me for starting?
I just got my first shipment of 13 Lady Liberty Silver Dollars + a 10oz silver bar. I bought these last week at the low spot price of $16.83.
I am really amazed at the color of pure silver…it’s really not polished shiny to mirror reflection, but is somewhat muted in luster…rather intriguing.
The size of the Silver Dollar is impressive, also. Very unlike the quarters and lesser change we carry, a Silver Dollar is robust, weighty, solid, large, thick and, clinking two together, an unfamiliar resonance and distinct “clink” sound is heard.
I learned, from the ordering process, I could reserve the coins at the spot price, and send a check, avoiding a credit card fee. This will be the way I do it in the future, or a bank transfer. Maybe someone coming along later will see this, and it will help them. I was just excited and wanted to get my shipment fast! 🙂
On the long-haul time horizon, it seems buying rounds will be the cheapest; paying for pretty designs is a premium I don’t think people will care much about in “post-event” world survival.
My next foray will be into gold. I want advice on whether buying and having smaller, fraction-sized gold coins would be recommended? To me, I reason that having a number of 1/10 oz pieces would be beneficial. I understand premium goes up with smaller sizes just from doing the math…it’s cheaper buying a whole 1oz coin, but that is a bit much of an initial outlay. I would not like being stuck with trying to figure out how to get resources for the value of 1/4 an oz. of gold, when all I had was 1oz pieces.
Should my mindset be: get what you can, even if it costs a little more?
