‘New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell’: Meet the Cast of Lifetime’s New Movie

During the summer of 2015, the nation was mesmerized by the prison escape at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York. Nearly two years later, it’s the subject of a new Lifetime movie. New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell makes its debut on the network on Sunday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Telling the story from Mitchell’s perspective, it stars Penelope Ann Miller as the woman who was seduced by two convicted murders and helped them escape.

On June 6, 2016, convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat pulled off a prison escape that was compared to the one depicted in Stephen King’s The Shawshank Redemption. After escaping the prison, they were supposed to be picked up by Mitchell, who decided at the last moment not to show up. Since Mitchell still helped provide them with the tools of their escape, she was charged with helping them. She agreed to plead guilty to charges related to the escape and was sentenced to up to seven years in prison in September 2015. Matt was found in Malone, a town just south of the Canadian border, where he was killed on June 26, 2015. Two days later, Sweat was found and is currently at a prison facility in Romulus.

Actress Penelope Ann Miller is a Golden Globe nominee thanks to her supporting role in 1993’s Carlito’s Way with Al Pacino. She earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination as part of the cast of 2011’s The Artist.
