Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff being decorated by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi OsinbajoThe head of the Nigerian Army, General Tukur Buratai, granted an interview in London, and it all exposed him a feckless general, a corrupt man with properties in Dubai while his troops are languishing in total misery , and a leader of a force that has failed to stop Boko Haram atrocities.
The interview was aired on Hardtalk, a BBC television and radio programme, consisting of in-depth 25-minute one-on-one interviews. The programme is broadcast four days a week (Monday to Thursday) on BBC World News and the BBC News channel.
General Buratai also talked about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health, only saying that there was no vacancy and the President, who has been treating himself in London for two months, should be allowed to recover and return home. He said the Vice President, Mr. Yemi Osinbajo, was acting as President.
He rejected human rights violations allegations against his troops in the fight against Boko Haram and dismissed reports by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch that troops were arresting innocent civilians and enlisting children as young as 12 years old.
Some Nigerians who might watch the interview may feel a sense of pity for those leading Africa’s most populous nation.
