THE Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anambra State, Dr
Nkwachukwu Orji has been presented “Prize for Peace and Service to
Humanity” Award in Awka, the state capital in recognition of his
hard work and dedication during the November 18, 2017, governorship
election and the January 13th, Anambra Central Senatorial re-run
election.
Speaking while presenting “Prize for Peace and Service to
Humanity”, Award to Orji, the Director African Emerging Leadership,
Research and Development Organization, Dr Rhuefe Khaese, said the
management of Electoral Bodies should avoid unnecessary distraction
and concentrate on the fight to eliminate election
malpractices.
Dr Khaese stressed the need for Electoral bodies to remain
unbiased umpires in election matters by upholding honesty,
accountability and humility in the discharge of their duties.
He explained that the Award was in recognition of the hard work
and dedication of Dr Orji in election management and administration
during the November eighteen 2017 Governorship election in the
state and the January thirteen, Anambra Central Senatorial re-run
election which he noted, came at a time when many people have lost
their common dignity through questionable character,
maladministration and unpatriotic acts.
Responding, Dr Orji while thanking the delegation for the
recognition and honour, noted that the outcome of the elections was
a result of collective efforts of the staff, supporting staff and
other stakeholders who strived to meet expectations of Nigerians
who desired major transformation in the way public affairs are
handled in the area of governance generally.
He observed that the gesture was a beginning of a new dawn of
expanding collaboration between the commission and non-government
organisation to produce greater accomplishment.
In his remark, the Administrative Secretary of the Commission,
Mr Charles Mbanaja, said the award was a call for greater
responsibility to always maintain the highest standard in their
activities.
