Why Igwe Onyeso Was Suspended, Monarch Tells Court

An Awka High court, Anambra state, presided over by Justice D.A.
Onyefulu, was told last Friday, that the Traditional Ruler of Nri,
Njikoka Local Government Area, Igwe Obidiegwu Onyeso, was suspended
by the Council of Traditional rulers in the state for conferring a
chieftaincy title of Ezeigbo Gburugburu, on the Leader and founder
of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra
(MASSOB), otherwise called Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, Chief
Ralph Uwazuruike, without the consent and approval of the
Traditional Ruler of Uwazuruike’s country home, prior to the honour
done Uwazuruike.

This disclosure was made by the Traditional ruler of Nawfia,
Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo, while testifying in a #500 million libel
suit slammed on him by his first cousin, Victor Nwankwo.

Testifying, Igwe Nwankwo stated that it was agreed by the
Anambra state Traditional Rulers’ Council that a non- indigene who
is to be given title in another community must have approval from
his community traditional ruler which according to Igwe Chijioke,
Igwe Onyeso ignored and went ahead and conferred the honour on
Uwazuruike which earned Onyeso the suspension.

He told the court further that he (Monarch) advised his cousin,
complainant, to come and take the second highest title in Nawfia,
which is Ezu, but that he (cousin) said that he did not want but
later went to Nri and was conferred with the chieftaincy title of
Ofia Umunri, by Igwe Onyeso.

He said he told his cousin the consequence of not having the
approval of himself as the monarch, that it would earn the monarch
that would give him title suspension but that he ignored him.

“Instead of him to then be answering the title given to him as
Ofia Umunri by Igwe Onyeso, he dropped the title and started
answering Ofia Nawfia, which is a spit on me,” the court heard.

Igwe Nwankwo also told the court how a policeman attached to his
cousin, pointed a gun at him when he came to see one Mr. Chinedu
Ngine, who lives almost opposite the house of his cousin, Victor
Nwankwo.

He said the incident happened while he was in the car driving to
approach Ngine house.

The judge, adjourned hearing on the libel suit to 24th, 25th and
26th July this year for continuation.
