The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar
Association, Kunle Edun Esq., has raised an unavoidable alarm about
an unknown legal practitioner who has been fond of aiding
non-lawyers to engage in the unholy act of impersonating legal
practitioners.
Mr. Kunle Edun made this known while reacting to a pictorial
evidence of a self-acclaimed activist by the name Harrison
Gwamnishu, who was reportedly alleged to have assaulted a DPO in
his office at Asaba.
According to him, a yet to be identified also based in Asaba was
said to have given the self-acclaimed activist his wig and gown to
have a snapshot and post same on his Facebook page.
”I understand that a colleague gave him the wig and gown to
enable him do a snapshot and post it on Facebook. This picture was
taken from the lawyer’s Facebook page.
”I have been informed of many dishonest activities he is
allegedly involved in but that is not my call. My investigation
reveals that the colleague that gave the “lawyer” the wig and gown
is very fond of giving/hiring out the apparel to whoever that needs
them and sadly, sees nothing unethical about it,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that they
are working on getting the full names and other specifics of the
colleague that is involved in the act.
Impersonation of legal practitioners in Nigeria is now an issue
that is not treated with kid gloves, as many fake lawyers are out
there taking the job of legal practitioners. So far, many culprits
have been brought to book. It is, therefore, expected that the
investigation in this matter comes to a positive conclusion, with
the offenders brought to face the gavel of the law.
While making effort to contact Harrison, THENIGERIALAWYER (TNL)
gathered that he was in detention for allegedly assaulting a
DPO.
