Deji Adeyanju Regains Freedom After Spending Five Days In Prison

Deji Adeyanju, human rights activist who was arrested by police
on Wednesday last week for leading a protest tagged
#PoliceNotPoliticianProtest at force headquarters Abuja, has been
released from custody after meeting his bail conditions.

He was released at 7: 00 pm to his colleagues.

Deji has spent six days in Keffi prison following his
arraignment before an Area Court in Karshi before magistrate Aliu
Kagarko.

The Nigerian police had accused and charged him alongside two
others with criminal conspiracy, public nuisance, disturbance of
public peace, and threat to public security and safety, criminal
defamatory and derogatory conduct against constituted authority and
breach of law and order under Sections 96, 113, 114, 152, 183 and
391 of Penal Code.

The presiding magistrate admitted him to bail with the following
conditions; two sureties, one of whom must be a level 14 civil
servant with a cover letter from his superior, and also a
businessman with a verified address.

A Coalition of Human Rights groups on Monday raised an alarm on
perceived threat to the life of Deji.

The group expressed apprehension on the sinister move and plan
by the police and other security agencies to rearrest him.

However, as at the time of filling this story, it is not clear
if he would be rearrested and charged for another offence.
