2019: Ahead of Friday’s rally in Akwa Ibom, Buhari gives Akpabio appointment

Ahead of the South-South zonal flag-off of President Muhammadu
Buhari re-election campaign slated in Akwa Ibom on Friday
(tomorrow), Mr Buhari has appointed Senator Godswill Akpabio as the
National Coordinator of the Presidential Support Committee.

Pastor Mfon Okon, the Akwa Ibom state Coordinator of the
committee, who disclosed this on Thursday, said four indigenes of
the state have also been appointment into the committee.

They include Lady Valerie Ebe, a former deputy governor of the
state as chairman, National Advisory Committee, Senator John
Akpanudoedehe, National Director – Planning & Strategy, Senator
Aloysius Etok – National Director for inter-party affairs, and the
party’s South-South zonal woman leader, Mrs Rachael Akpabio as the
National Assistant Welfare Secretary.

Mr Okon said appointments were a reflection of the confidence
President Buhari reposed on their ability to successfully work for
his re-election in the forthcoming presidential election.

He called on the people of the state to fully key into national
politics by supporting the All Progressives Congress to return the
President, and ensure that the party wins Akwa Ibom State in
2019.

Military Confirms Attack on Baga MNJTF Hq, losses Naval
Personnel

Please recall that yesterday, Wednesday 26th December 2018
suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the headquarters of 7
Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF),  Baga, Borno
State, at about 7.00pm.

The troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a
very determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night,
while Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE  sent in reinforcement
who are in hot pursuit of the terrorists.

Similarly,  a Search and Rescue team has been
constituted.

The Nigerian Air Force component has also been mobilised and are
engaging the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, a naval personnel
was killed in action. So far, no  further details of
casualties yet as efforts are on going to clear the terrorists
hiding in Baga and environs.

We enjoin all to remain calm as the troops conduct clearance and
mop up operations. We implore members of the general public to
disregard any contrary information circulating on the attack. We
will keep you posted with development on the pursuit and mop up
operations.
