Senior Special Assistant on media to the Chief Justice of
Nigeria, Awassam Bassey, JP., has debunked the news to the effect
that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Walter
Onnoghen, (GCON) has resigned. This was disclosed to
TheNigerialawyer (TNL) in the early hours of today, the 25th day of
January, 2019.
Dismissing the rumour, Mr. Bassey said that there’s absolutely
no truth in the rumours
making the round.
According to him, the news is fake, as the Hon CJN was in the
office all through yesterday (Thursday) and sat in court. He also
added that as part of his duties, the Hon. CJN will be swearing in
members of the 2019 National Assembly, Governorship and State
Assembly Election Petition Tribunals tomorrow (Saturday 26th
January 2019).
Below reads his statement:
”There’s absolutely no truth in the rumours making

TheNigerialawyer (TNL), recalls that there has been a report
making the round in a media outlet, that the Chief Justice of
Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Honourable
Justice Walter Onnoghen has resigned from office.
The rumour is been disseminated following the trial
of the CJN before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for
allegations on false declaration and breach of the Code of
Conduct for Public officers.
