Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin being
taken to Kano State Police Command headquarters for interrogation
on Friday, February 22, 2019.

The Kano State Police Command on Friday arrested a member
representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, over
attack on the convoy of a former governor of the state, Rabiu
Kwankwaso.

Mr Kwankwaso’s convoy was attacked by thugs suspected to be
loyal to the lawmaker. The thugs allegedly barricaded a road at
Kofa village and attempted to deny the motorcade passage through
the village.

At least five people were killed, while several others sustained
injuries as the thugs from the two camps clashed.

The house of the lawmaker was also torched, just as over 10
vehicles were razed to ashes.

DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered that the Assistant Inspector
General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Dan Bature, and the state
Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Wakili, on Friday went to the
scene of the clash and ordered the arrest of the lawmaker.

Security sources said the lawmaker is currently being
interrogated by the police at the command headquarters in
Bompai.

It was gathered that the governor of the state, Abdullahi
Ganduje, had on Wednesday pleaded with the commissioner of police
not to allow Mr Kwankwaso stage the final rally, but the
commissioner said he could not deny the former governor right
without any reason.

“When the commissioner gave nod for Kwankwaso to stage the
rally, Abdulmumin Kofa deliberately staged a rally at the area to
deny Mr Kwankwaso passage through his village, but the crowd in
Kwankwaso’s convoy overpowered them.

“The CP know exactly what happened. That is why he arrested the
lawmaker,” said a security source familiar with the issue.

But the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, said in a
statement on Friday morning that the supporters of the lawmaker
were attacked while praying for peaceful election by suspected
Kwankwasiyya thugs.

NAF Boosts Security in Taraba State

In its quest to further enhance security on the Mambilla Plateau
in Taraba State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided a mobile
Jet A-1 fueling facility to enable the refueling of NAF Helicopters
that would operate out of the 23 Quick Response Wing (23 QRW)
Nguroje.

In addition, the NAF has provided motorcycles as well as other
equipment and tactical gear to Special Forces personnel in the Wing
to enable them more effectively carry out their assigned task.

The action is in fulfillment of the promise made by the Chief of
the Air Staff (CAS) , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, during his
maiden operational visit to the 23 QRW on 19 January 2019.

During the visit, the CAS had promised that he would continue to
do all within his power to provide the needed logistics support and
resources that would enable the Wing function more effectively and
efficiently in ensuring peace and security in the area. The general
public is therefore encouraged to go out in mass to exercise their
voting rights as their security is assured.
