Amnesty International has urged the Federal Government to
investigate the violence that was experienced in the last
supplementary in Kano State.

Amnesty International Spokesperson, Isa Sanusi, disclosed this
in an interview with newsmen

Sanusi said the human rights agency made the demand because it
observed and monitored the supplementary elections as well as the
alleged violence and other political offenses that followed,

“Amnesty International condemns the human rights violation
during supplementary election exercise conducted in Kano especially
on journalists and electorate.

“We, therefore, call on President Muhammadu Buhari to lunch an
investigation into the issue.

“Extensive electoral security problems were observed in some
areas, with groups of men with weapons intimidating and obstructing
the process, and security agencies ineffective at protecting
citizens’ right to vote.”

In a related development, the European Union Election
Observation Mission said, it witnessed arranged violence and
intimidation of voters during Saturday’s election in some areas of
Bauchi, Kano and Benue states.

The mission added that party leaders and police could not stop
attacks on electoral staff by armed youths in Nassarawa Local
Government Area of Kano state.

The area has over half of all registered voters for the
gubernatorial supplementary election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had since
declared governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress,
Abdullahi Ganduje, winner of the elections.
