The Federal Road Safety Corps’ Zonal Commanding Officer for Zone
RS10, comprising Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, Dr Kayode
Olagunju has warned hospitals against rejecting victims of
accidents.
“It is illegal for any hospital to reject accident victims ‘” he
stated.
Speaking with key stakeholders that formed the multiple data
sources on Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) in the zone, he said the
fines for this is N50,000 and or six month imprisonment.
Olagunju harped on the need for RTC victims to get prompt rescue
and care, noting that the bulk of the victims die within one hour
of the crashes known as the golden hour.
He said: “All hands must be on deck to ensure that the victims
are well managed within the golden hour.
“In line with the global best practices, the country operates a
30-day rule which means a Road Traffic Crash victim should be
monitored for at least 30 days and whoever dies within 30 days
after the crash, is recorded to have died through RTC involved
in.”
He stressed the need for continued collaboration of all agencies
in traffic management in the zone.
He enjoined agencies involved in RTC management comprising the
FRSC, the police, hospital managements, Vehicle Inspection
Officers, state agencies on traffic and the National Bureau of
Statistics to ensure proper documentation of every road crash
detailing vehicles and persons involved as well as casualty
statuses.
Olagunju urged them to effectively collaborate in creating
credible RTC database in the zone.
He drew attention of the participants to the National Road
Traffic Crash Management System (NRTCMS) aimed at harmonizing data
from different sources for the country to have single credible RTC
data.

Kwara Police Command Reacts to Rumours of Terrorists in
Helicopter
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command Cp Kayode
Egbetokun, wishes to assure the good people of Kwara State of the
Command ‘s commitment to the security and safety of lives and
property of the citizens.
The Command is not unaware of the concern of some citizens over
a false alarm going the rounds to the effect that, an Helicopter
was sighted at Lalaji town, in Edu Local government area of the
State, discharging men bearing dangerous weapons in the bushes.
Even some online reporters went public with the unsubstantiated
rumour without recourse to the Command, this is very unprofessional
and highly provocative. However, the Command for the umpteenth time
is assuring the people of Kwara State of its capability to provide
security for the citizens.
The people sighted at Lalaji town were a team from Padlink
Resources Limited, who were at the location to conduct geological
mapping and mineral exploration, with the approval from the Federal
Ministry of Mine and Steel Development under the National
Integrated Mineral exploration project (NIMEP).
The people of Kwara are advised to pass informations of any
suspicious movements within their areas through the established
channels made available by the Command, rather than making false
statements that is capable of creating unnecessary tension in the
State.
Journalists, especially bloggers and online reporters are
advised to always verify their stories before going public, the
Kwara State Command holds and will continue to hold members of the
press in high esteem.
The good people of the State are advised to go about their
normal businesses, and disregard the false news of terrorists
invading the state, the Nigeria Police Force and sister security
agencies in the state are working round the clock to ensure that
good people of Kwara sleeps with their two eyes closed, please.
