Google plans to work with Huawei after U.S. relieves trade
restrictions. On Tuesday, Alphabet Inc’s Google said that it has
reversed its decision to cut ties with Huawei after the U.S.
temporarily eased trade restrictions on the smartphone
manufacturer.

The news marks a surprise turnabout for the U.S. Company. On
Sunday, Google announced it is planning to cut ties with Huawei as
a part of Washington’s move to add China’s telecom conglomerate in
the so-called Entity List.

But, then the U.S. Commerce Department made an announcement
saying that mobile phone companies and internet broadband providers
can work with Huawei with granting a 90-day license.

“Keeping phones up to date and secure is in everyone’s best
interests and this temporary license allows us to continue to
provide software updates and security patches to existing models
for the next 90 days,” a Google spokesperson said in an email on
Tuesday.

During the first quarter, Huawei was the second-largest
smartphone manufacturer by global market share. Last week, the
Commerce Department put Huawei and 68 other entities on the export
blacklist. The move prevented Chinese company from purchasing the
U.S.-made goods.

Huawei has faced difficulties due to cybersecurity allegations
from the U.S. government which had said its infrastructure
equipment may threaten the national security or the foreign policy
interests of the U.S. now, the U.S. Commerce Department has created
a temporary general license which allows Huawei to make development
in the future 5G networks standards.
