The Zamfara State Chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)
has commended the Supreme Court over Friday’s judgement against the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a five-man Supreme
Court panel sitting in Abuja, on May 24, nullified the APC last
primaries and all the seats won in the general elections.

The Supreme Court also directed that the political party and
candidates with highest numbers of votes be declared as the winners
for all the offices contested.

The NBA State Chairman, Mr Bello Galadi, gave the commendation
in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on
Friday.

Galadi said, “Court as the last resort, has done the right thing
in the right direction to rescue democracy in the state and country
as whole.

“This showed that by implication, rule of law, justice and true
democracy had started to emerge in the nation’s political system.
”

He, therefore, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for giving
the court a free hand to discharge its responsibilities.

NAN reports that there was jubilation across the state with
vehicles and motorcycles carrying People Democratic Party (PDP)
flags and posters about.

NAN also reports that a cross-section of the people, who
expressed happiness over the judgement on Friday, are members of
the APC, especially Sen. Kabiru Marafa’s faction.

Alhaji Sirajo Mai-katako, the APC factional State Chairman that
has loyalty to Sen. Kabiru Marafa, described the judgement as a
good development in the nation’s democracy.

“We don’t care about who will be the governor and which party he
is, our concern is justice and fairness.

“People should be allowed to have their choice of who governs
them in various political offices,’’ he said.

He, however, urged the people of the state to give their total
support to all those who emerged as leaders in the state.

Police Probe Destruction of Security Posts at
Zuba

The FCT Police Command sternly condemns the unfortunate
activities of some hoodlums in the early hours of Thursday that
resulted in the obstruction of vehicular movement, vandalising and
burning down of observation posts belonging to the Police and
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) at Zuba, Federal Capital
Territory.

On 23rd May, 2019 at about 0800hrs one motorcyclist identified
as Salisu Hamidu ‘m’ 32 years riding his motorcycle on high speed,
in an attempt to manoeuvre his way through vehicles parked by
police officers on stop and check duties, swerved his bike into an
oncoming car, that is yet to be identified, and was knocked down
leaving him with some injuries.

When notified about the incident, policemen who mobilised to the
scene in collaboration with some sympathizers moved the victim to a
nearby hospital where he is currently receiving medical
attention.

Meanwhile, some miscreants took advantage of the situation to
attack police operatives on their legitimate duty and set
observation posts belonging to the Police and FRSC on fire; as a
result of which four vehicles parked within the premises were also
burnt.

The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Bala Ciroma who in company of
some senior Police officers visited the scene of incident at about
0930hrs to assess the situation and ensure normalcy was restored to
the area, has ordered discreet investigation that will lead to the
identification, arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the
heinous act to serve as a deterrent to others.

The road has since been opened for vehicular movement and
members of the public are enjoined to go about their legitimate
activities as calm has been restored to the vicinity.
