Egyptian referee Gehad Grisha has been suspended after
controversy in the first-leg of the African Champions League final,
where hosts Wydad Casablanca were denied a penalty and had a goal
disallowed, the Confederation of African Football said Tuesday.
The move comes after the Moroccan Football Federation lodged a
complaint against Grisha’s decisions during a Friday’s match
pitting Wydad against Esperance Tunis.
Grisha ruled out a goal for the hosts, Wydad Casablanca, and
later denied them a penalty after VAR replays.
“The referee’s committee of the Confederation of Africain
Football has decided to suspend Mr Gehad Grisha for a period of six
months due to his poor performance,” the CAF said in a
statement.
The first leg of the CAF Champions League Final in Rabat ended
in a 1-1 draw.
The return match is scheduled to be held on May 31st in the
stadium of Rades in Tunis.
Grisha was referee during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
