The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Paul
Usoro, SAN has reduced the NBA Branches uniform eligibility
requirement to vote from having five meetings to a minimum of three
meetings.
This is due to the new order necessitated by the Coronavirus
pandemic which prevents meetings to be held in March, April, and
May, 2020.
This is contained in a statement which was made available to
Nairalaw and signed by the General Secretary, Mr. Jonathan
Gunu Taidi,Esq., which conveyed the decision of the NBA President
dated the 29th day of May, 2020 noting that same would be conveyed
to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NBA for
ratification.

UNIFORM BYE-LAWS FOR BRANCHES IN THE BRANCH ELECTIONS SCHEDULED TO
HOLD IN JUNE 2020
Further to the notice dated 29th May, 2020 the NBA
President, Paul Usoro, SAN has reduced the monthly meetings
required for eligibility to vote under Article 16 (1) of the
Uniform Bye-Laws for Branches from five (5) meetings to a minimum
of three (3) meetings in view of the lockdown occasioned by and
restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 pandemic which made it
impracticable to hold branch meetings in March, April and May of
2020. This exercise of discretion will be presented for
ratification at the National Executive Committee Meeting of the
Nigerian Bar Association.
The Branch Election Committees whose elections are scheduled
to hold in June 2020 are accordingly directed to recognise three
(3) meetings as the eligibility criteria to qualify to vote in the
Branch Elections.
