Liverpool’s star keeper has stepped up his recovery along with
the new summer signing.
An uptick of injuries in football were almost a certainty due to
the late finish to the 2019-20 season, a rushed preseason and hasty
start to the new campaign. While the shocking ACL injury to Liverpool star, Virgil Van Dijk has dominated
the headlines, the Reds have also suffered a rash of positive
coronavirus tests and knocks to key players to start the
season.
Alisson Becker, new signing Kostas Tsimikas, Naby Keïta, Joël
Matip are some of the names currently unavailable for selection due
to one injury complaint or another.
Despite boasting some impressive squad depth, Jürgen Klopp was
forced to field a makeshift midfield and defense in the midweek
Champions League victory over Ajax; and with
the games coming thick and fast from here on out, the German has
been anxiously awaiting on the return of a number of players.

He will be glad to hear of positive updates for the likes of
Alisson and Tsimikas in the push for fitness. The Reds’ no. 1 had
been feared out until deep into November after picking up a
shoulder injury in training at the end of last month, however, a
stepped his recovery could now see the Brazilian feature as soon as
next weekend’s Premier League clash with West Ham.
“Ali looks very good,” Klopp cautiously admitted regarding the
ex-Roma stopper. “We have to see. Catching balls and stuff like
this is all possible, but we cannot rush it and will not rush
it.”
“Actually, it’s a common thing every day when I see Ali, I say:
‘How was it today?’ He always with a big smile tells me of the
slight improvements. Today I didn’t see him [yet], so I can’t wait
to ask for his progress!”
Tsimikas is another Red nearing a return to training, having
been sidelined with a thigh injury since playing in the 7-2 victory
over Lincoln in the EFL Cup last month. A return of the backup left
back will be a relief for the boss with Andy Robertson having
started every game so far this term.
The German will hope to begin rotations for his squad as players
return and the pace of the fixtures continue to pick up in what is
sure to be a hectic campaign.
