Liverpool FC’s players were in action on
Wednesday. Kostas Tsimikas caught the eye of quite a few on Twitter
with a strong first half performance in a 2-1 win against Cyprus.
Kostas was aggressive in his play, heavily involved in his team’s
attacking sequences with several strong overlaps on a few
occasions. It’s good to see him back in action after his bout with
COVID-19 a niggling injury, and he’ll certainly be needed soon
given that Andy Robertson has played a whopping 1,084 minutes of
game time for the Reds so far this season.
Elsewhere, Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Senegal with
a penalty in their 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in a qualifying
fixture for the Africa Cup of Nations. Mane slotted his team ahead
from the penalty spot two minutes before the stroke of half-time.
It was his 20th goal for the Teranga Lions on his 62nd appearance,
which puts him a goal behind joint-second all-time top scorers El
Hadji Diouf and Mamadou Diallo.

Georginio Wijnaldum took up Virgil Van Dijk’s
armband, captaining the Netherlands for the first half of their 1-1
friendly draw with Spain in Amsterdam. He was replaced at the
interval by Ajax star Davy Klaasen.
Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench after
half-time against Belgium, but couldn’t prevent his side losing 2-1
to the Red Devils.
Lastly, Diogo Jota made a cameo in the final 16 minutes for
Portugal against Andorra at Benfica’s Estadio da Luz. The hosts
were already ahead by four goals when Jota came on, and added three
more for a big 7-0 win.
