As part of the club’s move to a new training ground, a time
capsule is being installed at the AXA Training Centre.

Liverpool departed Melwood this week, leaving behind
their long-time training base for a shiny new £50M facility meant
to better integrate the first and youth teams, and along with the
move they’ve decided to install a time capsule.

Intended to be dug up in 50 years, it commemorates the current
edition of the Reds—the ones doing the moving, and perhaps more
importantly to whoever digs it up the ones who won the 2019 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League.

Some of the included will be a home shirt signed by all the players,
a matchday programme from the match last season against Chelsea where they were awarded the Premier
League trophy, Virgil van Dijk’s boots, Alisson’s gloves, and
Jürgen Klopp’s glasses.

There will also be messages from current players and staff, some
digital and some on paper, a tribute to the victims of
Hillsborough, and the names of all club staff. Additionally, there
will be items included in the time capsule included by and
representing the current Liverpool
FC
Women team.

Hopefully, by the time the time capsule is dug up in 50 years’
time, they will have actually joined the men’s team at the new AXA
Training Centre. For now, though, the focus is on the first team
saying goodbye to Melwood—and looking to the future.

“It must be said that the decision to leave our historic home of
Melwood was not taken lightly, and it is with a heavy heart that we
do so,” read a from chairman Tom Werner. “We cannot deny the
significance and importance of Melwood.

“From its fruition in the 1950s to now, Melwood has witnessed
some of the club’s greatest managers and players grace its pitches
and go on to conquer Europe and the world of football. Those
memories will be cherished.

“However, as custodians of this great club, our role is to
always look towards and build for the future and we look forward to
continuing our incredible journey as Premier League champions while
remembering and celebrating our historic past.

“We hope that by installing this time capsule, we are capturing
a small snapshot of that excitement and preserving this next step
in our journey for future generations. We hope you enjoy reading
and watching some of our club memories and that some of the seeds
we planted 50 years ago have come to fruition.”
