Peter Moore buddies up with new American owners of non-league
Welsh side
A few weeks ago a heartwarming story took the footballing world
by storm when beloved American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob
McElhenney announced that they were purchasing non-league side
Wrexham. It’s not really new that Americans are looking to become
more prevalent in football ownership, but this was an interesting
move that raised a lot of eyebrows, not least because of the video
they put out.
But this week we may have gotten a glimpse at how serious the
new owners of Wrexham may be. The Daily Mail reports that former Liverpool
CEO Peter Moore met with McElhenney for over two hours in
California to discuss the new purchase and direction. Moore has
officially been brought in as an advisor for the club.

While this isn’t the first time that a Liverpool executive has
left for new adventures, Moore seems to still have Liverpool fans
on his mind with this moore. The former CEO suggests that Reds can
get behind Wrexham as their “second team.”

“There are 700,000 people in North Wales and 135,000 in Wrexham.
For some up in Liverpool, Wrexham can be a second team.” Moore told
the Mail.
“So there’s a tremendous opportunity to bring thousands back
when we produce success on the pitch and become a competitive team,
which we’re not far away from.
“What the experience of Liverpool tells you is that you start by
getting the players who can get you victories, who bring you bigger
crowds and sponsors, who bring you players.
“You re-do your stadium. You re-do your training ground. A
women’s team is crucial. Though of course, one thing you can’t
govern is the ball hitting the back of the net or deflecting off
the post.
“It’s got to be sustainable. You don’t go in and flash cash.
It’s not through salaries increasing that you grow but a prudent
approach to getting the club back to where it belongs, which is in
the Football League.”
We’ve seen Liverpool fans root for second teams before, with a
lot of Reds getting behind Marine’s push in the FA Cup. I
guess time will tell if there’ll be a backing for Wrexham.
