“15 Die In Enugu Highway Inferno” — Families, Children Perish As Tanker Explosion Destroys Vehicles

Tragedy struck on the Enugu-Onitsha highway in Enugu State as a devastating petroleum tanker explosion claimed at least fifteen lives, including children. The horrific incident occurred around 12:30 pm at the Ugwu Onyeama axis of the busy expressway.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded when a petrol tanker veered off its lane while navigating the highway. The tanker collided with several passenger vehicles, leading to a catastrophic fire that engulfed the surrounding area.
The intensity of the blaze hampered rescue efforts, as flames consumed four private cars, four committee buses, and two additional tankers caught in the inferno’s path. Tragically, entire families and children were reportedly burnt to ashes, their lives cut short in the most unimaginable way.
When contacted, the Enugu Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Agbakoba Onyekwere, was unable to provide exact casualty figures at the time of reporting. The scale of the devastation left authorities grappling with the aftermath of this heart-wrenching event.
