At least five miners were killed and two others injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Marit village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack was confirmed by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, which said the victims were ambushed at the site.
The association’s spokesman, Rwang Tengwong, described the incident as another painful attack on communities in the area and called for stronger security protection.
A resident, Simon Mundat, also confirmed the deaths and appealed to security agencies to improve protection for residents and miners.
As of the time of the report, security authorities had not issued an official account of the attack.
In a separate development, security personnel working with local hunters reportedly repelled an attack on Latok community in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.
A community source said the attackers withdrew after security operatives responded.
The latest violence comes days after the Plateau State Government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in three local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, following repeated attacks and killings.
The state government has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security operations continue.
