Rivers Assembly Passes Port Harcourt Polytechnic Bill Into LawRiver State House of Assembly has passed the Port Harcourt Polytechnic bill into law, thus making the former Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Rumuola now Port Harcourt Polytechnic.
The House, presided over by the Speaker, Mr Adams Dima also passed into law the Rivers State Taxes and Miscellaneous bill, 2016 and Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption bill, 2016.
The new laws have made it incumbent on all business operators in the state to pay taxes. Those in the hospitality industry are to pay four per cent of things consumed in their hotels and restaurants.
Speaker of the House, Dima said that the lawmakers will always act in the interest of the state on all issues.
Before passage of the Rivers State Taxes and Miscellaneous Bill into law, members debate on it were divided with some saying it could affect growth of the private sector in the state.
Deeya Barine , Khana 1 constituency who spoke during the debate on the bill, said agricultural produce should be exempted from taxation.
