British Open Odds 2016: Best Bets & Sleeper Picks at Royal Troon

The last time The Open Championship (British Open) was held at Royal Troon, American Todd Hamilton outlasted Ernie Els in a playoff to hoist the Claret Jug in 2004. It was one of just two career PGA TOUR wins for Hamilton, who entered that week ranked 56th in the world. It’s a reminder that, even at major championships where the courses are difficult, the fields are deep with stars and the pressure is at an all-time high, sleepers and lesser-known players can rise to the top of the leaderboard. While the looming quartet of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy makes it a little more difficult these types of underdogs to win major tournaments, it also means anyone below the upper tier of players will have favorable odds.
