There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari is not happy with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over the alleged plot to increase electricity tariff by 100 percent, despite the epileptic power supply around the nation.
It could be recalled, that since the planned increment filtered in, there have been series of uproar from different quarters.
While some Nigerians have condemned the planned increment, others have called for the immediate resignation of Fashola, as Minister of Power.
According to a close source in the Presidency, President Buhari having knowledge of the planned increment, had summoned Fashola, who immediately stormed Aso Rock, denying the policy statement and was allegedly sent out by the President.
Post-Nigeria gathered that due to the heavy embarrassment, the action of the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC, under Fashola, is capable of further tarnishing President Buhari’s political image.
Recall also, that few hours after the incidence, NERC, was reported to have released a statement, denying the report and describing the publication as false.
Meanwhile, Justice Ibrahim Idris, of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Wednesday, July 13, declared that the 45 percent increment in electricity tariff was a total disregard to the rule of law.
He also ordered the immediate reversal of the policy, restraining NERC from further increasing the tariff, except in strict compliance to the provisions of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act 2004, EPSRA.

Fashola, seems not happy with the development, as his image has been brought to the mud.
Earlier, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, while speaking during a stakeholders workshop on Road Transport Management and Mass Transit Operations in Nigeria, organised by the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday, criticized the current structure in the power sector.
He maintained that the reason why the Ministry of Power was not performing at optimal level, was due to the fact that most of its subsidiaries have long been privatised and hence, leaving Fashola as a figure head.
