Following the protest that has rocked Kogi State, over the unending strike, Governor Yahaya Bello, has threatened to treat students who partake in the protest, as kidnappers.
This however, sparked reaction from the Kogi Reinnassance Group, who has vowed not to take the Governor’s words for granted, and dared him to frame students who have taken out time to express their grievances.
According to a statement signed by the General Secretary, Kogi Reinnassance, Usman Okai Austine, and issued to Post-Nigeria, he stated that the statement credited to the Governor, was a “joke taken too far”.
“The Governor who is the Chief Security of the State is expected to concentrate on good governance and go after the kidnappers that have taken over the State, instead Bello’s-led government has reduced governance to a mere child’s play,” he stressed.
Recall, that the Kogi State University has been under lock, over non payment of salaries to lecturers, for the past three months.
The students therefore, embarked on series of protest to ensure the plights of their lecturers are met.
However, the group stated that the path which the Governor had taken, is detrimental to the well being and rights of the entire Kogites, and reveals the vacuum in the leadership of the State.
“The Governor instead of concentrating on good governance and people oriented programs, he is busy chasing shadows, the latest conducts of the Governor is unbecoming, his choice of words is not going down well with the good people of Kogi State.
”The State is in comatose and economic quagmire and therefore, needs an urgent attention, but there is a complete leadership vacuum in the State, as Bello is unable to stand up and exhibit the characters and attributes, required of a people’s Governor.
”Inexperience is not an excuse in the affairs of governance, as it is much more of team work and procedure, than a one man affair .” Austin stated
The group lamented further that, “This ugly development is having a strong negative impact on the State, as the economic activities of the State are at a stand still, the industrial action embarked upon by the Organised Labour is still on going, and the Governor is showing an I don’t care attitude.
“The students of the higher institutions have been at home for more than 3 months, and which led to the protests organised by the students of the affected institution. It is expected of the Governor to call an expanded meeting with the ASUU Kogi State chapter and other critical stakeholders, but to our greatest surprise the Governor took to the media, and announced that he will treat the students like kidnappers .
“This developments is giving us deep concern, as the State is directly moving in a very wrong direction and if nothing is done on that, it is a direct invitation to anarchy and insecurity.
“The State that is battling with the kidnappers on a prowl, armed robbery has taken over the major high ways in the State, the civil servants are dying of different ailments resulting from hunger, due to the inability of the State Government to pay them their entitlements, backlog of areas and salaries. Despite the 20 billion naira bailout fund loan collected by the State Government, yet the Governor is busy chasing shadows .
“The threat of this magnitude is becoming a reoccurring decimal, since the illegal Government of Bello came into power. So many had received phone calls from Bello’s supporters, urging them to desist from criticizing Bello, or face the wrath of opposing the Governor. This must be put to an end”.
