The former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman Kresta Laurel Limited, Otunba (Engr.) Gbenga Daniel may join the race for the Chairmanship position of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Investigation by this newspaper revealed that stakeholders of the party at the national level have begin intensifying efforts to ensure the Business mogul clinch the position come August 17, 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Already, a group made up of former and serving Governors, National Assembly members and committee of Ex-Ministers known as ‘Reformers’ have been holding consultative meetings across the country to set the ground for his emergence.
A member of the group who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity disclosed that a committee has already been set up, headed by two serving Governors in the North to liaise with the Northern caucus.
The major opposition party, PDP, has been embroided in leadership crisis since the party lost the presidential election in 2015. Various efforts aimed at unify the party have resulted in fresh uprising.
In May, a national convention held in Rivers State to elect new set of national officers for the party ended in a stalemate and resulted into the dissolution of the National Working Committee and constitution of a National Caretaker headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Efforts to get the response of Chief Daniel failed as calls and SMS made to his media aide, Ayo Giwa were not picked nor responded to.
