Dallas Cop Arrested After Brutally Assaulting and Choking Girlfriend at Omni Hotel

A Dallas police senior corporal was arrested for domestic violence early Sunday after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend at the downtown Omni Hotel.

According to Caleb Downs of The Dallas Morning News, Jose Gamez, 30, was arrested about 2:45 a.m. at the hotel in the 500 block of South Lamar Street on a felony family violence charge of assault by impeding breathing.

Gamez and his girlfriend got into an argument in their hotel room, and he shook her while telling her to go to sleep, according to an affidavit. He threw her on the bed, and when she got up, he allegedly grabbed her around the neck and choked her. The girlfriend told police Gamez then threw her on the bed again.

The responding officer said that upon arrival, he heard yelling coming from the room. Gamez was arrested and taken to police headquarters for questioning before being released.

Gamez, a seven-year veteran assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division, will be facing an internal affairs investigation while he is on administrative leave.

He was previously investigated in the 2014 fatal shooting of 18 year old Sergio Ramos.

Downs goes on to say, “Gamez had just finished an off-duty shift at a Walmart when he encountered Ramos and noticed a pistol protruding from his pocket.

Gamez told Ramos, who had allegedly killed a man moments before, not to touch the pistol. Ramos reached for it, and Gamez fatally shot him.

Gamez was not charged in Ramos’ death.”

Should we expect to see this officer held to the same standard as others? Can we be served and protected by an officer that is not even able to stop himself from choking his girlfriend?
