We knew it was just a matter of time but Nintendo of America issued a takedown notice on Breath of the NES, a game that was an 8-bit recreation of the Breath of the Wild demo shown at the Game Developers Conference earlier this year. If you go to the link to download the game, you’ll see it is no longer available.

Nintendo has a lengthy history of shutting down fan games that use their characters. Some games from recent memory include Pokemon Uranium and AM2R, a Metroid 2 remake. When we first saw this game available for download, we knew it was only a matter of time. If you have already download the demo, you are free to keep playing it but it will no longer be updated with Breath of the Wild sprites.

Winter Drake, the developer of the game, has decided to keep the project going and just replacing the Zelda characters. The developer also promises the project will come back bigger and better than ever.

@RickSnyder3 (2/2) The game isn’t dead, I just won’t be using the Zelda characters. It will live on! 😀

The game was pretty impressive so we’re looking forward to see where it goes now that it’s not using the Zelda skin. Winter Drake says they have enough artists and music composers to help turn it into a original game. We’ll keep you updated on where the games goes next.
