Recently freed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has paid a courtesy visit to Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, at his Asokoro residence in Abuja, on Monday May, 1, 2017. The two men, targets of the brutality of the Muhammadu Buhari regime, met at Kuje Medium Security Prison in Abuja where Fani-Kayode was remanded in an on-going Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, case concerning campaign funds used by the People’s Democratic Party during the 2015 presidential election. When Fani-Kayode was freed on bail, he wrote an article chronicling his encounter with the pro-Biafra activist and in another article, likened him to great Igbo leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe and Emeka Ojukwu. “When I went to visit the great and brilliant freedom fighter, Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of IPOB and easily the most courageous, powerful and credible Igbo leader in Nigeria today in his cell we had a very instructive and long discussion,” Fani-Kayode wrote. “I had never met Nnamdi before and I was amazed at his depth of knowledge, his immense courage and his deep convictions. “There is no doubt in my mind that that man is going places and in him the Igbo have an Ojukwu and a Nnamdi Azikiwe all rolled into one. He is destined for greatness”. This meeting with prominent thought leader in Nigeria is the first public appearance by Nnamdi Kanu after his release from Kuje Prison on bail.
