Offa Robbery: Police Arrest 7 Suspects

The Kwara state police command, on Saturday, released a
statement regarding on Thursday bank robbery operation in Offa.

The command says 17 persons including 9 police officers, 8
civilians were killed. While 7 suspects are in police custody in
connection with the robbery attack.

The statement reads in part: ”Seventeen (17) persons comprising
nine (9) policemen/women. Eight (8) civilians, all killed within
the police station and the street/banks. Five Banks namely Union
Bank, Ecobank, Gtbank, FirstBank, Zenith bank and one Microfinance
bank, Ibolo micro finance bank, were attacked.

“Seven suspects have been arrested. One of the suspects was
arrested at Igosun road while six others were arrested at different
locations in Offa. They are all helping us in the
investigation.

“Seven vehicles were recovered from the armed robbers.

“Numbers of injured victims are yet to be ascertained as they
are receiving treatment in different hospitals. Suffice to conclude
that, as callous and as unfortunate as the attack was, the casualty
figure in the incident was seventeen (17) and not thirty (30) as
erroneously reported by some media platforms.

“Some rifles were carted away by the robbers”.

The statement added that the Inspector General of Police,
Ibrahim Idris, has ordered a full investigation and has directed
his Intelligence Response Team and others to assist in arresting
the bandits, while the Governor of Kwara state, Abdulfatah Ahmed,
has promised a reward of N5 million for anybody with useful
information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
