I have reached the pinnacle of my career, says ex-IGP as he bows out

Ibrahim Idris, former inspector-general of police (IGP),
has bowed out of office after clocking the mandatory 35 years in
service.

President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Idris in 2016, following
the retirement of Solomon Arase.

There were reports on the attempts to extend his tenure but this
was resisted by opposition parties and civil society groups.

Speaking with reporters shortly before Mohammed Adamu was named
acting IGP, Idris said he put in his best while leading the
force.

“I want to inform Nigerians that today I am 60 years and I think
I have reached the pinnacle of my career. So, I am going to
handover to my successor. He is an officer I know very well. We
worked together in the past. I wish him success,” he said.

“The advice I will give is that just like in our time, he should
try to go round the country and adopt measures to ensure that the
Nigerian police force gives maximum protection to lives and
property.”

Asked to comment on the major challenges of the police, the
ex-IGP said: “Obviously. the challenges are in the area of
recruitment. I am sure you are aware that the government has just
given us approval to recruit more people yearly, by the grace of
God by this year the number of police officers is going to increase
considerably.”

He said the police are prepared for the forthcoming elections,
adding that the record of the past would speak for the force.

“We are adequately prepared for the elections. We have carried
out a lot of elections in this country and I think you will agree
with me that the Nigeria police force tried in these elections,” he
said.

“I am assuring Nigerians that the Nigeria police force are going
to do their best in this coming elections.”

OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED: IGP Idris Retires, Adamu is Acting
IGP

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, NPM,
mni retires today, 15th January, 2019 from service of the Nigeria
Police Force at the age of Sixty (60) Years.

2. The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
Federal Republic of Nigeria has consequently directed that the
outgoing Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris,
NPM, mni, hand over to the Assistant Inspector General of Police,
AIG Mohammed Abubakar Adamu,mni as the Acting Inspector General of
Police.

3. The outgoing Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun
Idris, NPM, mni deeply thank the President and Commander-in-Chief
of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria for the
opportunity given to him to serve under his administration as
Inspector General of Police. He also sincerely expresses gratitude
to all Nigerians across the Country for the cooperation and support
they accorded him and the entire personnel of the Force during his
tenure. He enjoined them to extend the same level of support and
assistance to his successor, Ag. IGP Mohammed Abubakar
Adamu,mni.

4. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed
Abubakar Adamu,mni hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State and a holder of
BSc. Geography. He enlisted into the Force on 1st February, 1986 as
Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

5. Ag. IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu,mni is a versatile and
seasoned Police Officer, a professional per excellence. He attended
several Senior Officer Courses on Law Enforcement, Crime
Prevention, Control and Management within and outside Nigeria.
Before his appointment as the Acting Inspector General of Police,
he was a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and
Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State. He was
Commissioner of Police in Ekiti and Enugu States and also Assistant
Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Police Command
Headquarters, Benin, Edo State.
