The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,
Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the violence in some parts of the
country during Saturday’s election in Nigeria.
Several people have been confirmed killed during the elections
including 11 in Rivers State.
Mr Abubakar, in a statement by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe,
reiterated his pre-election statement that his ambition was not
worth the blood of any Nigerian.

The presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party and
former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, condemns the
brutal violence that claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians during
Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections in the
country, restating that no one deserves to die over a process to
elect their leaders.
Reacting to the reports of violence in some parts of the
country, the PDP presidential candidate reiterates his previous
position that no politician’s ambition is worth the blood of any
innocent Nigerian.
According to Atiku, no politician should celebrate his political
gains if they are written in the blood of innocent Nigerians, and
that no Nigerian, including innocent youth corps members, deserve
to die for the sake of any man’s political ambition.
He said those innocent Nigerians that died won’t be forgotten
for their sacrifices, adding that political violence which is being
aided and abetted by desperate politicians, is giving our democracy
a bad name.
The PDP presidential candidate said those politicians who climb
the ladder of human lives to attain power have brought our
democracy into disrepute, and that it was high time the Nigerian
youth opened their eyes to resist being used to kill and maim.
He explained that any politician who is sincerely interested in
the progress of the youth shouldn’t be using them as cannon fodder
for his/her ambition. He stressed that the youth deserve jobs and
not death.
Atiku added that the real enemies worth fighting are poverty,
unemployment, hunger, nepotism, division, despair and uncertain
future.
He extends his condolences to the families and friends of those
innocent Nigerians that tragically lost their lives.

Receives African Leadership Award in South-Africa
The Chief of Army (COAS), Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General
Tukur Yusufu Buratai has on Friday the 22nd of February 2019 added
another feather to his well decorated cap as he was presented with
African Leadership Award at the 7th Edition of the African
Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award at the Sandton
Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to the Selection Committee of the African Leadership
Magazine Annual Award, the Chief of Army Staff was honoured with
the prestigious and highly coveted award in recognition of his
outstanding contributions to Africa’s security, economic growth and
development.
They further noted that the commitment and examplary leadership
exhibited by Lieutenant General TY Buratai as Chief of Army Staff
of the Nigerian Army stood him out among African leaders that
contributed to security on the continent.
General Buratai was honoured alongside other African business
and political leaders from various countries of the continent.
The Chief of Army Staff was represented by the Chief of
Civil-military Affairs (Army), Major General US Mohammed who made
presentation on the activities of the Nigerian Army during the
event.
During the presentation, Maj Gen Mohammed reiterated the
Nigerian Army’s commitment in defending the territorial integrity
of the country and enhancing excellent civil-military relationship
in Nigeria.

In recognition of the immense role being played by the Nigerian
Army in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, it has been
invited to make presentation at the Exclusive Session of the 7th
Edition of the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year
taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South

safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, at the event.
The African Leadership Magazine’s Persons of the Year annual
Award is given to those African leaders that distinguished
themselves in the professional, business or administrative
endeavours and blazed trail in the year under review. Lieutenant
General Tukur Yusuf Buratai will be presented with award alongside
other african business and political leaders.
Other winners in different categories include, the Prime
Minister of Ethiopia, Doctor Abiy Ahmed Ali, Nigeria’s Deputy
Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, the owner
of Oriental Energy, Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, President of Tanzania,
