JUST IN: Dokpesi Arrested In Abuja On Arrival From Foreign Medical Treatment

Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications, owners of
African Independent television (AIT), has been arrested at Nnamdi
Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, on his return from medical treatment at the
American Hospital, Dubai.

AIt announced the arrest, quoting an immigration officer as
saying Dokpesi is on the Federal Government’s security watchlist,
and that there were instructions from above to arrest him on
arrival.

Dokpesi is standing trial for alleged involvement in the
diversion of N2.1 billion security funds by Sambo Dasuki,former
National Security Adviser.

NIS Deports Ghanaians over Immigration
Offences

The Nigeria Immigration Service has carried out a Deportation
Order as authorised by the Honourable Minister of Interior in
respect of four (4) Ghanaian Nationals for violating various
provisions of the Immigration Act and Regulations.

This is in line with the powers vested on the Honourable
Minister of Interior in Section 45(1) and (2) of the Immigration
Act 2015.
2. The Order which was issued in the interest of the Public affects
three males and a female. They are:
i. Florence Donkur (F)
ii. Simon Gyan (M)
iii. Yeboah Collins (M)
iv. Alhaji Isa (M)
3. They were deported to their country of origin via Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja today 22nd March, 2019 by 0900
hrs.
4. The Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, MFR,
uses this medium to reaffirm the commitment of the Service to
enforce relevant laws whenever the need arises while encouraging
regular migrants in the country to be law abiding.

NIS Graduates 1,500 Sports Administrators in Nigeria

Barrister Solomon Dalung has again broken another sports jinx
after the National Institute For Sports NIS held its 7th
Convocation for students who graduated from 2005 to 2018.

The Minister of Youth and Sports who was the a special guest at
the graduation ceremony of 1,500 coaches and Sports administrators
expressed delight that after 14 years of waiting, the ceremony
eventually took place under his watch.

“Today is another milestone in our efforts to revive the sports
traditions in Nigeria. We had revived the National Sports Festival
after six years in the doldrums and today we had a Convocation of
the National Institute for Sports after 14 years. For me, it is a
thing of joy especially sharing the joy of the graduands, some of
whom had graduated over 14 years ago, waiting helplessly for this
day.

“I congratulate all the graduands, Governing Council and the
Management of the NÍS and all those who made this historic event a
reality. This event becomes a second addition to virtually moribund
programs within the system of the Ministry resuscitated during my
tenure with the first being the National Sports Festival. The
management of the Institute under the leadership of the Director Dr
Eke Kingdom has lived to realize some of the targets I set for them
and I will commend him for this achievement.

The Minister said that the Governing Council of the NIS was
inaugurated in March 2018 under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim
Galadima (MFR) to give direction and sustain the leadership of NIS
in the areas of Sports Research, Coaching and Management.

“During their inauguration, I charged the Council to chart a new
course for the Institute to ensure that it not only regains its
status as the Premier Sports Institute in the country but also the
best sports training institution in Africa.”

Barrister Dalung also charged the graduands to discourage the
use of performance enhancing drugs by athletes and key into the the
silent revolution being witnessed in the sports sector in the last
three and half years under President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration with focus on nurturing sports talents at the
grassroots.

In his address, the Director of the NIS Dr Chukwudi Kingdom Eke
paid glowing tributes to the Minister, the Chairman of the
Governing Council Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima and the Permanent
Secretary Mr Olusade Adesola for the recently recorded
milestone.

This includes an extensive review of the Institute’s curriculum,
acquisition of vehicles, renovation work on hostels and offices and
ongoing process of accreditation exercise and rebranding of the
institute.

“However, permit me to appeal to the Federal government for an
upgrade on the Institute Research and Sports Science Laboratory,
Library, sporting facilities and procurement of utility vehicles
for field work in order to facilitate the attainment of the goals
and objectives of the Institute”.

The NIS also used the occasion to celebrate the Silver Jubilee
of the Institute.
