Chief Akpe Obosi has said that one incurs the wrath of
politicians when the same delves into the arena of politics with
them.
Chief Obosi made this statement in a letter to his Royal
Majesty, Igwe Iweka III, Eze Obosi, in honour of the invitation to
the meeting of Eze NA Ndi Ichie slated for the 23rd March,
2019.
According to him, an Igwe loses his immunity once he ceases to
be father to all and delves into partisan politics.

TO: HIS ROYAL MAJESTY.
IGWE IWEKA lll, EZE OBOSI,
MY DEAR IGWE Ill, EZE OBOSI,
I HAVE RECEIVED YOUR INVITATION TO THE MEETING OF EZE NA NDI
ICHIE SLATED FOR 23RD MARCH. HOWEVER, DUE TO MY PREVIOUS
ENGAGEMENTS, I FEAR I MAY NOT BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT IN SUCH A
CRUCIAL MEETING AS THIS. HOWEVER, I WISH TO MAKE THE
FOLLOWING OBSERVATIONS TO ASSIST IN THE DELIBERATIONS.
(1) I HAVE OBSERVED THAT THE NOTICE OF THE MEETING WAS SENT
ONLY TO SELECTED NDI ICHIE AND NOT ALL NDI ICHIE, ESPECIALLY NOT TO
THOSE THREE ON THE “DEATH ROW”. IT THEREFORE LOOKS AS IF THEIR
INDICTMENT WAS ALREADY “FAIT ACCOMPLI” AND THE MEETING WAS MERELY
CALLED FOR OTHER NDI ICHIE TO CONDUCT THEIR “BURIAL”.
(2) SECONDLY, THE MEETING HAD A SINGLE AGENDA AND THIS IS
UNFORTUNATE AS WE STILL HAVE A NUMBER OF OTHER VERY SERIOUS,
PRESSING AND UNRESOLVED ISSUES BEGGING FOR THE ATTENTION OF EZE NA
NDI ICHIE. I WILL MENTION JUST A FEW:-
(a) The unresolved issue of N22 million compensation payment
made to obosi for 2nd Niger Bridge which is in your
custody.
During one of our meetings, Ojuba Obosi informed us that he
collected the money and handed over to you. Your attempt to pay
N100,000 each into Ndi Ichie accounts was roundly rejected by most
Ndi Ichie. We are waiting to hear from you the fate of the N22
million, to determine how best it is to be utilized to solve the
myriad of problems in obosi.
(b)The unresolved issue of over 150 plots of land belonging
to Obosi people (your subjects) which were callously seize
by “your son” Chibuzo Okeke of Nkpor and which is currently
being resold to Obosi people (also your subjects).
Properties belonging to two Ndi Ichie were confiscated and sold
in the process.
Recall that the frosty relationship between you and I was as
a result of the scam, and my report to you and Ezeaputa Molokwu
of rumours making the rounds that you are benefitting from
it.
Has the Investigative committee set up by Eze Na Ndi Ichie
resolved the issues?
(c) The issue of your meddlesomeness in OLC matters which
led to the attack on your person by one Oyoko. During the last
general meeting, Ndi Ichie reminded you that the main reason for
setting up the OLC with a governance structure was to create a
cushion between the Igwe and the rough youths. This is necessary
for Igwe to maintain the sanctity of the throne.
However, your meddlesomeness has destroyed OLC structure and
has converted our youths into your private army under the command
of Red cap, non Ndi Ichie.
What have you done to reverse this potentially dangerous
situation?
(d) The expected roles of a traditional ruler in partisan
politics.
Ndi Ichie should examine the roles being played by you in
all Nigerian elections so far, starting from the gubernatorial
elections of 2017 to the just concluded one.
With all due respect sir, an Igwe loses his immunity once he
ceases to be father to all and delves into partisan
politics. You incurred the wrath of politicians by diving
into the arena with them? Since you insisted on doing this against
good advice, is it not expected that there will be
consequences?
During the gubernatorial elections, it was alleged that you
campaigned for APC and was paid handsomely for it. In the just
concluded elections, bigger amounts were allegedly paid.
Enough money must have been paid to cause you to appear on
the podium for APGA during the campaign visit of the state
Governor.
It is also on record that you addressed OLC members urging them
not to vote for Obinna Chidoka (your own subject) but rather to
vote for Ifeanyi Ibezim (an Abatete man). Is this not an act of
disloyalty against your subject?
(e) With the utmost sense of responsibility sir, I submit
that the so call GROSS SACRILEGE for which the meeting was called
should actually be the last issue on the agenda. This is so because
if all the items listed above are not thoroughly trashed out, more
and even greater sacrileges are bound to be committed in future,
and Ndi Ichie Obosi will again be called upon to be used as cannon
fodder to unleash terror and intimidation on dissenting Obosi
people, while your misdemeanours remain
unchecked.
Simply put, there is always a “cause and effect” to every
action. As the old saying goes “the man who brings an insect
infested wood into his house inadvertently invites lizards to a
feast therein”. I believe the throne of Eze Obosi should be carried
with dignity for its sanctity to be preserved. Dignity is not only
donning regal costumes and in measuring steps, but more
importantly, it lies in character and Integrity.
SIR, BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS MATTER, I HAVE
REDUCED MY THOUGHTS INTO WRITING, TO PRESERVE ITS CONTENT FOR THE
SAKE OF POSTERITY, AND ALSO TO HELP IN THE DELIBERATIONS OF EZE NA
NDI ICHIE, I PRAY THAT YOU WILL ALLOW THIS VERY BRIEF WRITE UP
TO BE READ OUT TO NDI ICHIE AT THE MEETING, AS MY HUMBLE
CONTRIBUTION. WE NEED THE PRECIPICE WHICH OUR TRADITIONAL
INSTITUTION IS FAST DESCENDING INTO.
