The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) will in no distant time change
the way things are done at the National Secretariat in order to
make things work more effectively, TNL had learnt.
This is following the approval of the President’s program for
”Personnel Restructuring” of the National Secretariat on Thursday
at the meeting of the NBA-National Executive Council which is
currently ongoing at the National Secretariat, in Abuja.
The NEC among other resolutions has also approved and adopted
the creation of new NBA organogram as proposed by NBA
president, Paul Usoro, SAN. This suggests that most of the policies
of the current administration as promised are already yielding
positive results.
Also, the crisis brewing in Warri branch of NBA has been
resolved by the NEC with the appointment of Oghenero Okoro Esq as a
co-opted NEC member.
TNL gathered that the resolution was as a result of the petition
written by Oghenero Okoro Esq., to the NBA, complaining of his
unlawful exclusion from the Branch’s election for the position of
NEC Rep.
The decision by the Council to appoint Oghenero Okoro Esq., was
closely followed by a resolution suspending Bayo Akinlade Esq,
as Chairman of Ikorodu branch. In reaction, the Council has
appointed Tony Ogbeide Esq., as acting chairman of the branch.
TNL recalls that Mr.Bayo Akinlade Esq had earlier conducted an
election for the office of the Vice Chairman of the branch, in
violation of the NBA directive. The NBA through the General
Secretary, Jonathan Taidi Gunu had asked Mr. Akinlade to furnish
the National Secretariat with the reasons behind his decision, but
Mr. Akinlade replied the Secretariat, telling it that he does not
have the power to cancel the election.

FAAC: As Kwara Gets N3.3bn for March, 16 LGAs to share
N2.4bn

Kwara State Government said it has received a sum of
N3,307,918,431,91 as allocation from the Federation Accounts
Allocation Committee (FAAC) for the month of March, 2019.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, made
this known in a statement he released to newsmen in Ilorin on
Thursday.
According to Banu, the State Government’s allocation was made up
of statutory receipt of N2,135,323,050.74bn, Value Added Tax (VAT)
of N901,610,816.11m, exchange gain of N4,725,434.41m, excess bank
charges of N25,193,474.21m, and foreign exchange equalisation
N241,065,656.44m.
He further explained that the 16 Local Government Councils in
the State are to receive N2,425,638,638,39 as allocation for the
month.
The Commissioner, however, clarified that the council’s
allocation comprises statutory allocation of N1,735,851,170.04bn,
VAT of N511,054,779.12m, exchange gain of N3,116,744.30m, excess
bank charges of N16,616,803.97m and foreign exchange equalisation
of N158,999,140.96m.
