We closed a section of Port Harcourt-Aba road to protect INEC office —Police

Police Command in Rivers State have appealed to residents of
Port Harcourt to continue to show understanding and cooperation
with the Command’s continuous closure of Port Harcourt-Aba
road.

The command’s spokesman, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, Deputy Superintendent
Police told the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Monday
that the closure was on account of security.

NAN reports that the Waterlines Bus-stop to GRA stop axis of the
road had remained closed since March 9, 2019 Governorship and House
Assembly polls.

Omoni said the closure by the Police was in “public
interest.”

He said it was meant to protect INEC office situated between
Waterlines and GRA bus stops, its personnel and electoral materials
in the office.

Omoni said the Command regretted the inconveniences it caused
the residents.

The spokesman, however, noted that the closure was temporary and
was not intended to cause hardship for the residents.

“It is in the interest of Rivers; it is not intended to cause
hardship for the residents.

“The people should bear with the Command; it is only for a
while,” he said.

NAN reports that as of the time of filing this report, two out
of the four-carriage ways were still closed to traffic.

Police Sustain Onslaught on Criminal Elements in
Anambra

It would be recalled that on the 29\6\2018 in broad daylight, a
trader one Ndubuisi Nwokolo male aged 38 years of No 21 otamoye
Street,adoakpu in Onitsha was murdered in cold blood allegedly by
one IKENDA and his accomplices using offensive weapons such as
machetes and cutlasses on the victim.

2. Following the incident, the Command launched aggressive
manhunt for the fleeing perpetrators and declared the ring leader
one Ikechukwu Udensi alias IKENDA male aged 27 years of Azia town
in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State wanted.

3. Consequently, on the 31/3/2019 at about 12:50pm, following
painstaking intelligence and strategic planning,Police operatives
attached to the Command Operation Udoka and Special Anti robbery
Squad SARS raided a Criminal hideout at Menax near down flyover in
Onitsha and arrested the notorious Suspect Ikechukwu Udensi AKA
IKENDA who was earlier declared wanted in connection with the
alleged murder.

4. Suspect is assisting the Police with useful information that
could help in arresting his accomplices in order to bring them to
Justice.

2.1 ARREST OF SUSPECTS WHO ATTACKED AJALI POLICE STATION, SET IT
ABLAZE AND CARTED AWAY POLICE RIFLES.

On the 15/2/2019 at about 02:am, hoodlums Suspected to be IPOB
members attacked Ajalli Division, burnt down the station, three
police patrol vehicles and other exhibits.

2. Suspects, equally carted away three AK 47 rifles from the
Division armoury and injured the DCO who was on visiting round.

3. Following the incident, the Command special Anti robbery
Squad embarked on aggressive manhunt of perpetrators and arrested
five of the suspects as follows.

-Abuchi Nwogwu ‘m’ aged 21 years ,
-Okwudili Nwanne ‘m” aged 42 years,
-Maduabuchi Obia ‘m’ aged 22 years,
-Chukwuedozie Orah ‘m’ aged 30 years and,
-Ekechi Chukwuemeka ‘m’ aged 30 years all of Ndikelionwu in Orumba
North LGA of Anambra State .

4. Upon interrogation the suspects took operatives to their
criminal hideout and one of the AK 47 rifle with breech number KO
358792 carted away was recovered.

5. Case under investigation after which suspects would be
charged to Court for prosecution.

3.1 ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF FIREARM.
On the 28/3/2019 at about 10:05pm,Police operatives attached to the
Command Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS arrested at Upper Iweka
area Onitsha one Chimaobi Amauwa ‘m’ aged 25 years of Ihechiowa in
Abia State.

2. Preliminary investigation revealed that suspect belonged to a
one chance robbery syndicate terrorizing Onitsha and environs using
a commercial bus in order to deceive their victims.

3. Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one recovered one
locally made pistol and the operational vehicle L300 bus with REG.
No. DRK 85 XA.

4. Case under investigation and effort is ongoing to apprehend
his accomplices after which they would be charged to Court for
prosecution.

5. Finally, I want to assure all “Ndi Anambra ” and residents
alike that all hands are on deck to ensure the safety and Security
of all citizens in the State.The Public are equally enjoined to
continue to assist the Police with useful information and report
any suspicious persons or movement through the Police emergency
numbers availed to the Public for prompt response, please.
